Botulinum toxin neuromodulators are popular for cosmetic treatments, especially reducing frown lines and other wrinkles. Dysport® is one of these neuromodulators, using a similar neurotoxin formula to Botox®. Both have been FDA-approved for frown lines treatment, but some individuals respond better to one or the other. At HMS Plastic Surgery, we offer Dysport injections at our facility in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale, FL, area.
Dysport injections have similar effects as Botox, but a different formula and brand. The neurotoxin affects the neurotransmitters to muscles, blocking the signals that cause the muscle to contract. This relaxes the muscle, stopping certain movements. When used in small doses, botulinum toxin A in Dysport injections is safe and effective for cosmetic treatments. Dysport is FDA approved for frown lines treatment and many medical treatments, but it is also used for many off-label cosmetic procedures.
Frown Line Injections
The glabellar lines, or “11s” between the eyebrows, are one of the most common areas for Dysport treatment. These dynamic lines form when scrunching the eyebrows together, often when frowning. Placing injections into the muscles that cause these lines to form can smooth the brow and forehead. This creates a more pleasant and youthful appearance to the upper face.
Dysport injections can be completed in about 15 minutes at our office. There is no downtime or recovery needed after the treatment. The effects of Dysport take a few days to notice but are usually complete within a week. Results of Dysport injections will last 3-4 months, at which point they can be repeated to maintain the desired appearance. While many patients have no side effects from the treatment, the most common are swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites.
For some of our patients, Dysport is a better option than Botox for their cosmetic treatment. If you want to learn more about Dysport or our other cosmetic procedures, contact our team at HMS Plastic Surgery. We can schedule a consultation at our center in the Fort Lauderdale, FL, area.
