Neuromodulator injections using botulinum toxin A are the most requested cosmetic procedure in the U.S. Millions of neuromodulator cosmetic treatments are performed each year, including Jeuveau® injections. Jeuveau uses the same neurotoxin as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® to provide cosmetic changes to the face. At HMS Plastic Surgery, we offer several neuromodulators, including Jeuveau injections, at our facility in Miami, FL.
Jeuveau was FDA-approved for the treatment of frown lines in 2019. It is formulated slightly differently than similar neuromodulators, which can make it a better choice for some patients. Like Botox, it blocks nerve signals to the targeted muscles, causing them to stop contracting. This is effective for smoothing certain dynamic lines like worry and frown lines on the forehead.
Jeuveau injections are performed in a quick office visit with no need for recovery or downtime. The procedure is not painful; the injections are small and well-tolerated. Results from Jeuveau injections can be seen in about 3-4 days, as the muscles will begin contracting less until the line or wrinkle stops occurring. The effects can last up to four months and there are minimal negative side effects – most are related to the injections, such as bruising or slight swelling.
Jeuveau Versus Botox
While Botox was the first neuromodulator to be FDA-approved for frown lines and other cosmetic uses, it is not the best choice for everyone. Jeuveau can be an alternative to Botox with better results for some patients. If you have built up a tolerance to Botox and no longer get results from treatment, Jeuveau injections may be right for you. It is the only neuromodulator to have the same molecular weight as Botox, offering similar results. For some patients, it may be a better neuromodulator option. It is FDA-approved for frown lines, but it is also used off-label for some other cosmetic treatments.
